Summary

This is a one-day workshop for anyone interested in understanding and thinking more about dementia. Learn about the different types of dementia and how to help individuals, couples and families deal with the impact of diagnosis through the latest developments in psychoanalytically informed therapeutic support programmes.

Aims & Objectives

  • Explore the emotional impact of dementia.
  • Describe the relevance and application of psychoanalytic thinking in developing therapeutic interventions.
  • Investigate the area of self-awareness and identity in dementia.
  • Give key information on dementia, including context and update on the National Dementia Strategy (Department of Health February 2009).

The workshop will be of interest to anyone who wants to understand more about the different types of dementia, the emotional impact of the illness on individuals, couples and families, and what can be done to help.
