Rachael Davenhill

Rachael Davenhill is Director of Age Matters, Fellow of the Institute of Psychoanalysis and Consultant Clinical Psychologist.

Previously as Head of the Old Age Unit, Tavistock Clinic, London she founded and organised the 2 year CPD course ‘Psychodynamic Approaches to Old Age, edited ‘Looking into Later Life: A Psychoanalytic Approach to Depression and Dementia’ (Karnac, 2007) and co-edited ‘Rethinking Clinical Audit: the case of psychotherapy services in the NHS’ (Davenhill, R. Patrick, M. Routledge, 1998).

She worked in the NHS for 30 years and is currently piloting a psychotherapeutic support service with the Dementia Research Centre, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, UCLH NHS Trust and seeking funds to integrate the service free at the point of need within the NHS. She is a Visiting Senior Fellow with Older People’s Unit, City University, St Bartholomews School of Nursing and Midwifery.

She has a private psychoanalytic practice in North London and runs a specialist dementia therapeutic support service for people undergoing assessment pre and post diagnosis as part of the Age Matters Psychotherapy and Counselling Service. She is currently working in collaboration with Open Wings Productions as Programme Director for the ‘Telling It Like It Is’ Dementia Outreach Programme. This comprehensive workshop, conference and lecture series will be available in 2012-2013 to accompany the launch of ‘Telling It Like It Is’, a film about the life and work of artist, William Utermohlen.
