Therapeutic Support Service

If you are becoming aware of problems with your memory you may be experiencing a sense of loss, dismay and isolation. It is important to know that you are not alone and that the changes you are experiencing can be investigated and understood. The symptoms of depression and dementia early on can be similar, and a full assessment will help disentangle what is happening in terms of diagnosis.

We believe it is as important for people to have the opportunity for an ‘emotional scan’ as well as an MRI scan and neuropsychological assessment as part of a holistic diagnostic process.  This will involve an initial consultation in which the therapist will meet with you and also with your partner and/or family where possible.  We are able to provide specialist neuropsychological assessment if this has not already been undertaken and a therapeutic pathway can then be planned which will best support you and your family.

Subsequent meetings with the therapist aim to provide a safe space to think about what is happening in the context of your whole life situation, past, present and future.  The sessions will provide time and space to look at the emotional issues involved in living with memory loss (mild cognitive impairment) or dementia for you and your family.
